All West Lacrosse Travel Team

All West Lacrosse is putting together a travel team for Summer of 2011.

Detailed Information:

I guess this is a good thing... more opportunity for the kids.

I like this:
"Coaches/Evaluators will be high school and college coaches who are unbiased and fair"
"Unlimited number of players for tryouts"
"No cap limit on club nominations"

The Tournaments they will be attending will be different from the current Festival/National/Vail.

Does anyone know if players on the festival or Vail teams can play on the team?

I heard some names on the coaching staff for this program today. I just went and looked up the staff on the All West site to verify. Here's what I found for the staff:

Matt Ogelsby (Duke)
Patrick Brown (West Chester)
Greg Batis (Middlebury)
Christopher Dean (Villanova)
Mario Enea (Cal)
Sean Furber (Denison)
Zach Hefner (Virginia)
Mike Hennessey (Quinnipiac)
Eric Krieger (Princeton)
Luke Ogelsby (Penn State)
Joe Romano (Whittier)
Joe Rosenbaum (Princeton)
Mike Russell (Duke)

That is pretty impressive!

Tryouts for All West Elite are coming up this weekend. The High School coaches who'll be doing the evaluations are:

• Chris Packard, Saint Ignatius College Preparatory
• Marty Jayne, San Marin High School
• Bob O'Meara, De La Salle High School
• Rory Manley, Amador High School
• Cort Kim, Sacred Heart Preparatory
• Mike Abou Jaoude, Saint Ignatius College Preparatory
• Larry Boehm, Saratoga High School

That's a very solid list of coaches, and a nice mix of positions they played in college. Hard to imagine a better set of evaluators than these guys!

In saying the All West Elite evaluators had, "a nice mix of positions they played in college." I meant:
• Chris Packard - Midfielder at Cornell - team Captain
• Cort Kim - Attack at Albany - AA and Albany Hall of Famer
• Larry Boehm - Goalie at Washington College - AA and Washington Hall of Famer
• Michael Abou Jaoude - Close D at Bucknell - First alternate for Team USA

All West has all the positions covered with guys who know what it takes at each position.

Coaches Manley and O'Meara, in addition to being fine High School coaches have spent lots of time with Youth teams and Youth travel teams and that perspective will be invaluable in the selection process.

So, I heard there were more than 200 boys who attended tryouts for All West Elite. Was anyone there? Any comments?

Between the two groups, U13 and U15 there were around 200 kids. From that number around 60 were chosen for each age group.

I was there for the U13 tryout...six hours over two days...

Everything went off smoothly and was handled very professionally...

Every player got a good look and there were so many evaluators on the field I'm sure they had multiple notes on every kid from many different viewpoints...

The kids all appeared to respond very well to the coaching and directions given and they finished up their sessions with tired smiles...

Five U13A coaches were in attendence and the posturing began in earnest by 9:30am and continued good naturedly for both days...

I can't wait until practice begins...

Well done Matt...

The West Coast Cup went off very well this weekend.

Lots of happy players going hard on grass fields under impossibly high blue skies...nice rollout of the All West Elite program...

Nice showcase for Doug's National team even though the All West kids gave them all they could handle before going down 7-5...I don't know who else is around for Doug's team to scrimmage but I think another matchup or three would do them both some good...

Several Duke Blue Devils and Virginia Cavaliers around all of whom were very accessible to the kids...kudos to Matt and his people for a great weekend...
