2011 Jerry Langkammerer Invitational

Postby Billax » Mon Apr 11, 2011 6:12 pm

I've been able to gather up some information about the 5th Annual Jerry Langkammerer Invitational. Not a lot, but some. The dates for the Invitational are April 19, 20, and 21, the Tuesday through Thursday before Easter. As usual, it will be held at Saint Ignatius College Prep, with JB Murphy Field being the primary venue. The speaker at the Langkammerer dinner on Wednesday, April 20th, will be the extraordinary Jimmy Lewis. Here's the short form bio on this legendary lacrosse player:

James C. Lewis, US Lacrosse Hall of Fame
Captain, United States Navy
Three-time 1st Team All-American
Three-time Turnbull Award winner (the Turnbull Award is given to the nation's finest Attackman)
Three-time Lacrosse National Champion
Men’s Soccer National Champion
Top Gun Fighter Pilot

By searching around the Internet, I was able to see that Jimmy Lewis is considered by many to be the finest lacrosse player who ever lived. Seems like a great dinner event for all the boys who'll be competing at the Langkammerer!

I'll post teams, times, and the schedule as I get more information. This event remains my personal favorite in the Bay Area, with the Fall Ball NCAA DI tournament running a close second.

All the boys had dinner together Wednesday evening and listened to Jimmy Lewis talk about how to improve - how he improved and how other top tier athletes improved. A great plan for those who are resolute about improving their games. Elsewhere on the Forum is a bio of Captain Lewis, and it is definitely worth reading, but I had a chance to talk with him early this afternoon and ask him about a New York State High School Lacrosse record, "Most points in a game." I'd heard that Jimmy Lewis once held this record and asked him about it. It went like this:
Billax: Do you still hold the New York State High School record for most points in a single game?
Jimmy Lewis: Yes, I do.
Billax: Was it 21 points?
Jimmy Lewis: Yes, but it wasn't a very close game and I only played in the first half. I think the final score was 36-0.

OK. That's beyond amazing. 21 points in a SEASON is a respectable amount for a strong contributor to a team. 21 points in half a game is beyond comprehension!

Thanks to Jimmy Lewis for speaking at the Langkammerer player dinner.
