Palm Desert Lacrosse Classic--Thanksgiving--?

Postby norcalmom » Tue Nov 23, 2010 8:34 am

I saw these Northern California U13 teams as playing in Palm Desert, wondered who they are & when they were formed:

Team NorCal
Golden Gate
(any others from northern california?)

Thanks! Still trying to figure out when travel teams are formed, where they are coming from, and how long the team competes once formed....

Norcalmom,

I believe the Team NorCal is the Festival Team from the summer.
It was formed in the spring of 2010 (May?) , and they travelled to Ohio this summer.

I think Team Talon and Tomahawks are from NorCal as well.

Hey LaxDaddyMan,
Did the coach give you any more results from the Palm Desert Tournament?

I believe the GG Elite U-16 lost their third game to the other NorCal team which might be the Golden Gate State Lacrosse: U17 Elite Travel Team as some of the listed team members were playing.

GGE U-16 advanced to playoffs and were eliminated by maybe yet another NorCal team.

GGE U-18 went 0 and 4 in the tournie but won their game in the consolation bracket.

Not the best communications coming in so take all of this for what its worth…. 8)

NorCal 2013 and NorCal 2014 were Bill Glazier's teams in the U16 division. A U18 team as well. He also had a 2015 team and apparently a MS team.

Team Talon sent a U15 and U16 team to the tournament.

NorCal Golden Bears are a U16 team.

Golden Gate U16 and U18 are headed by Dini's new travel team program.

This general summary encompasses the U16 division:

For U16 it was all NorCal for the entire tournament and playoff seeding with the exception of team called Lax West Snipers out of San Diego. Talon was dominating from the beginning. However, the coaches even agreed that that competition on Friday was much lighter than what they are used to so they pretty much rolled those teams. Their first game on Saturday was no different. They went 3-0 with a boat load of points to secure the #1 seed. NorCal 2013, Golden Bears and GG Elite were 2-0 going into Saturday. Golden Bears beat Lax West Snipers in the morning 6-4 to secure a playoff spot. NorCal 2013 and GG Elite played to solidify seeding. GG fell to 2013 9-2. Because there was a tie between Golden Bears and 2013, the seeding was settled by points against. 2013 edged Golden Bears for the #2 seed.

Both Talon and 2013 got a bye, while Golden Bears played GG Elite for a semi final spot. Golden Bears beat GG Elite 9-4. Lax West Snipers seeded 4th and they played another team, sorry I forgot who, in which Snipers won and went on to play Talon in semi game 1. Golden Bears went on to play 2013 in semi game 2. Golden Bears beat 2013 in the first minutes of OT. Talon fell behind by 2 goals in the semi's to come back with 9 unanswered goals and secure their spot in the championship game.

Golden Bears battled Talon in the championship game. It was a close hard fought game, with awful officiating as all coaches agreed, with goals being scored back and forth, but in the end Talon pulled ahead in the last 5 minutes of the game to win 6-3. They are a good team that you can tell there is strong team chemistry and solid coaching.

Overall, the tournament organization was lacking as the teams to play in the quarter finals were notified 15 minutes before the games were scheduled to begin. The officiating was inconsistent and pretty bad all around. The tournament is very much growing, but the organization of the event is severely lacking. Anyways, the weather was perfect and it looked like all the NorCal teams had fun no matter what.

Thanks for the U16 report, BayAreaLax! Nice write-up, as usual.

Lax Buzz has a nice article about the performance Team Talon Middle School and Team Talon Junior Varsity at the Palm Desert Lacrosse Classic. Team Talon is sponsored by Easton Lacrosse. Team Talon MS won all five of its games, scoring 46 goals while allowing only 12. Team Talon JV also won all five of its games, outscoring its competition, scoring 49 goals while allowing only 5. Tremendous performance by these two teams!

The Lax Buzz article, including rosters for both Talon teams, can be seen at:
