DLS Christmas's game Committed v Non Committed at DLS

Postby Grampa Lax » Fri Jun 09, 2017 7:55 am

DLS's, Coach Johnny Christmas is hosting a clinic ( Impact 10 Showcase) this week for non committed high school athletes and several college coaches will be in attendance. To highlight the camp the culmination on Saturday night Will be an All Star game between the best of the uncommitted players and a group of nearly 40 already committed players who will provide the opposition. The committed players whose names, are reported below are split into two squads who will first play each other in a preliminary short game from 6:30 -7 pm. That will be followed by a game with a composite team of committed players to play the best of the uncommitted athletes from 7;15 to 8;30 pm . All this is happening at DLS this Saturday night June 10th . A list of the committed players who will be there including their high schools, class year, club teams and college selections are provided. Should be some great lacrosse that is fun to watch. I'm sure the already recruited kids will not want to get spanked by the uncommitted boys. A clever idea being used by Coach Christmas to promote his clinic/camp and to get college coaches to come west to watch some previously overlooked or younger kids.

Re: DLS Christmas's game Committed v Non Committed at DLS

Postby Grampa Lax » Sun Jun 11, 2017 1:57 pm

The committed v non committed game at DLS was very entertaining. Although there was an anticipation that the committed kids would simply roll over the non commits it was soon evident this would not be the case. Frankly the non committed kids were for the most part younger 10th and raising 11th graders and even a few freshman and all with a lot of talent. They also had some time to play together as well. There were at least 4-5 underclassmen from Coach Christmas's own DLS team who will be rising stars next year. Indeed the face off player for the uncommitted team was a DLS freshmen who won at least 65% of the face offs. Because the older boys had no practices this resulted in a number of unenforced errors and some sloppy play that can be expected in an All Star game. However both teams played hard and the speed and talent of both squads was evident. The committed team did ultimately win it but just barely 10-9. There were a number of college coaches in attendance but apparently the game was streamed to many more.

This event was the culmination of a 3-4 day camp for 2018, 2019 and 2020 age groups .It appeared the camp was well run and organized. There was a public address announcer who had a running narrative pointing out who was making the plays and in the case of the committed boys their names and where they would be going to school. Another nice touch the committed boys received a jersey with their name on the back and their recruited college. About 40 recruited kids showed up most of whom knew and had played against each other so a good time was had by all. Over all I overheard people say they felt in a couple years this will be a very big recruiting event that both committed kids and non committed kids will want to attend . A big plus for Coach Christmas and a good recruiting tool for De La Salle.
