Final All EBAL picks for 2017 per East Bay Times

Postby Grampa Lax » Thu Jun 01, 2017 11:47 am

The coaches met the Monday after the NCS championship game to select the league's all EBAL 1st and second teams. Players were notified at their subsequent team dinners a couple days later. The league is notoriously late in providing the East Bay Times that information. Last year it was not until June 16th that the EB Tmes published their own list of all East Bay that was a composite list of several EBAL, DVAL and DFAl players. Sadly this year after the Times left their High School sports coverage to their digital edition lacrosse has received little coverage and less than all other spring sports.

So since we don't know when or even if the all EBAL selections will be published I can say at the SRV recognition dinner 10 days ago Joey Carrington was selected as the EBAL league's player of the year. He is a senior who will be attending North Carolina next year. He has received all league selection since he was a sophomore. However this year he was a one man wrecking crew as a long pole and a wing-man on Face offs. Joey was recruited by the Tar Heels before his freshman year of high school and has lived up to their expectations for him .

Other Wolves selected for first team All EBAL were fellow senior LSM and other FOGO wing Kyle Souza who will be headed to Marquette on a scholarship as well as senior Wolf long pole Garrett Steffens going to Bryant. All three senior defense-man, Carrington, Souza and Steffens also were selected by US Lacrosse on their list of Nor Cal All Americans.

Other First team selections were junior goalie Cole French a Denver recruit and on offense the teams leading scorer junior Drew Erickson committed also to Denver.
.
The third long pole for the Wolves junior Cathal Roberts already committed to Princeton was a second team selection.

The Wolves not withstanding their double overtime loss in the semifinals of the NCs finished the season 20-3 and both Lax Power and Max Prep listed SRV at the conclusion of the season as the top team in the NCS. State wide Lax Power listed the Wolves third in the state behind Saint Ignatius and La Costa Canyon and ahead of Torrey Pines . DLS was 11th. Amador Valley 13.

Hope some others can add to the above list and provide some recognition for their deserving athletes even if the local news doesn't or won't provide such a platform. Sadly although Lacrosse seems to be growing in popularity on the west coast you wouldn't know it if you followed the media coverage of the sport.

Going from memory here since the AVHS awards dinner was more than a week ago.

1st team- junior attack Connor Dubiel, also tied for EBAL high goal scorer
1st team- sophomore FO specialist- Lucas Heaverley with some unbelievable FO winning percentage for the season (cant recall for sure but in the 70+% range)
1st team- Senior Long Pole Defense- Jacob Lum
1st team- Senior Middie Alex Pappas

2nd team
Junior Middie Luke Ingram
Freshman attack Cal Ewanich, who also led all of EBAL in total points for the season

Honorable mention went to Senior Middie Adam Ashley
