Vandergrift is large public HS in Austin Texas founded in 2009 and named after Marine Lt Mathew Vandergrift who was killed in 2008 in Basra Iraq. It participates in Div 5 the largest Div of schools in Texas.
Sports as in most Texas schools is a big deal. This year the Vipers are 6-1 and ranked # 4 in Texas Div 1 schools. They and Dallas Episcopal, Highland Park and the Woodlands are the class of Texas High School Lacroose. Highland Park just finished a swing through the SF and the Peninsula losing to SI 6-9 and beating both University High and Bellarmine. They are currently ranked #12 in Texas.

I have been advised that this Vandergrift team is big and fast. Prior to their game with SRV on March 15 they play at Piedmont on March 12 and at Marin Catholic on March 14. Expect that this year staying competitive in those matchups will be a tough task for the Highlanders and Wildcats. Prior to the SRV Vandergrift game, SRV tomorow night plays a huge game hosting Lawreceville Prep of Princeton NJ one of the elite eastern prep schools in the country both academicly and athleticly . This will be a big test for SRV who gave SI a tough battle last week. Lawrenceville wanted this to be just a schrimage but it is now to be an official game so there is alot of local prestige and pride riding on the outcome. Marin Catholic will get the first crack at Lawrenceville tonight in Marin. I always admire the MC teams who are not afraid to schedule the best. Another tough task, however, for the CATS. MC has already played EBAL powerhouses De la Salle losing 8-13 and Monte vista losing 6-17 while wining against Acalanes 12-10 . They will be battle tested for league play for sure. So some great early games for the local teams to test the strength of Nor Cal lacrosse aginst some of the best teams in Texas and the East coast. Let the face offs begin!!
