Summer Games 3D Nor Cal 2017 team

Last August laxdad2 posed the question "Outlaw tryouts" there then ensued 30 posts and over 3600 views re the subject of the issues revolving around the competition between the Outlaws and Nor Cal 3d. as to whether two teams could field competitive teams to play in eastern tournaments and if there would be any defections from the very successful Nor Cal 3d 2017 team to the Outlaws. The answer to that question was there were no meaningful defections and yes both teams would show well in the summer games back east. laxdad2 has noted that the 2017 Outlaw team won at the Gait cub and that team also won a couple games at the King of the Hill in which they were entered. What happened to the Nor Cal 2017 team?

They entered 4 tournaments this summer winning 2 ( Denver shootout and FLG) finishing third at the KOH losing only to the eventual winner and leading after pool play in the fourth tournament ( Sweet lax) that was washed out in Sunday's championship round. Their record was 16-1 for the summer.

Denver Shootout June 12-14

In their first tournament of the summer they defeated two teams from So Cal 10-2 and 9-2.( 3d LA, and Claremont) winning a third and met a Colorado team DOCO in the finals who had previously defeated 3D Colorado last year's winner. Nor Cal in a game shortened by adverse weather won 4-3 taking home the championship were they had been the runner up last year.

King of the Hill June 20-23

The team got off to another good start winning their first two games over Chesapeake 10-3, and 16-2 over a Madlax squad but lost in the only game they played poorly to TriState elite 8-6 in which they trailed 6-1 at the half. They dominated the second half but couldn't make up such a deficit. They won the game for 3rd place defeating So Florida 9-4 on Sunday.

Sweet lax Summer Invitational, Pittsford NY June 27-28

This tournament was a weather disaster as it rained heavily for two days. Games were if fact played the first day notwithstanding the weather and after pool play involving 20 teams Nor Cal was seeded first having given up only 10 goals in their 3 wins on Saturday. However as heavy rains continued the city of Pittsford on whose fields the games were played ruled their fields were unplayable and all the Sunday Championship games were cancelled.

FLG Tournament Germantown Md July 17-19

Weather again was a factor but for a different reason. It turned brutally hot reaching into high 90's with suffocating humidity. There were 20 teams in the tournament with 4 divisions of 5 teams each. Nor Cal was in the D division. On Friday nite in pool play the team won its first game against a team from Nor Virginia Steps Elite 5-2. On Saturday they followed with wins in pool play against Sweetlax 4-2, Amped 6-3 to lead Div D with only 7 goals scored against them. The two top teams in the A,B,C,D divisions would then play in the Sunday championship round. They had a further game with a runner up in Div C NESLL Black from Conn who they defeated 6-5 scoring the winning goal with 2 seconds left. In the semifinals they defeated TriState elite 8-4( players from NY, NJ,Conn) the team they lost to at KOH and won the final and the championship against New England 3d 6-4. This game because of the heat was played with four 10 minute quarters with 2 minute quarter water breaks. Quite an amazing summer. Many eastern teams if they didn't know the history thought they had a cupcake to play a Nor Cal team but soon found out differently. This is a team that has played together for several years now composed of 8 SI boys and a sprinkling of kids from Marin,So Bay and East bay including Monte Vista, SRV, Amador and Piedmont. They are very close and play with confidence, enthusiasm and passion. Their Defense was particularly dominant as they gave up the fewest goals in every tournament they entered. They are fun to watch!

I took down the post of the 2017 3d Nor Cal roster for the Summer of 2015 due to concerns that the rosters of all clubs are not generally published in today's climate of competition. Sad commentary as I simply wanted to recognize a very special bunch of kids. Apparently not releasing rosters is now the norm done across the board by both boys and girls club teams. Mia Culpa!!

Not releasing rosters appears to be more of a Nor Cal thing. Looks like many of the premier travel clubs post rosters. Why not, right? Can only imagine it would benefit the players.

Great post Grampa lax and thanks for the update on the summer.

Could be they don't want the rosters posted because 1 or more players play for other clubs, and maybe they play on a lower grade level (reclassify).

Well laxtruth and wclax keeping the rosters secret certainly isn't for the benefit of the kids. The clubs I suspect don't want their rosters publicized to avoid poaching by their competitors. You will note that neither Nor Cal 3d nor the Outlaws have their rosters posted on their websites. That didn't use to be the case just two years ago. The 2017 Nor Cal 3d Team was kept intact this year even though the 7 SI boy's coach Parker now works for the Outlaws. However these SI kids mostly from So Marin have played together for years and chose to stay the course. That team and its circumstances were unique. I suspect the competition between these two elite programs for players for the 2018, 2019 and even the 2020 teams will only intensify next year.

For the people involved (coaches, players, parents), the team rosters aren't exactly "secret" for anyone who wants to spend the minimal amount of time to figure it out, so it is a mystery why the rosters aren't listed on a website. I am much more familiar with travel baseball, and all travel team rosters are listed by the governing organization on tournament websites. If anyone thinks travel baseball is less predatory than lacrosse for players, then they are very mistaken. Club lacrosse is nothing compared to travel baseball!
