Is this thread for Eastbay, NCS or Norcal (State)? If Norcal, then you would have to include Sacto, SF, northbay and southbay, as they have players equal if not better than players listed here. NCS would include Northbay and Sacto. Just sayin.

I have not idea what was the intention of the original thread but it appears anyone who identifies some good kids have chimed in and it in all fairness laxtruth, lax1234, was simply reporting the kids that made all league
for the Diablo Valley Athletic league (DVAL) Those schools include Piedmont, Bishop O Doud, Berkeley, College Park, Clayton Valley Charter, Northgate etc . This is a league that will continue to grow in lacrosse skills as there are schools there with proud traditions in Eastbay athletics. Right now however it is dominated by Piedmont which had an 18-2 record but didn't play a lot of games outside the league and were a bit unprepared to meet the challenges of the likes of Acalanes or Marin Catholic in the semifinals of Div 2.

As to the question of a broader in scope list of players most folks probably haven't seen or heard of a lot of kids say in the Sacramento area and no one this year has offered their thoughts on the status of talent there. Once again those school such as Davis, Granite Bay went out early in the NCS playoffs in DIV 1

Some of the larger Div 1 schools in the DVAL such as Clayton Valley, Northgate, College Park of the Mt Diablo School district suffer from a yet to be developed stong youth program that at present just doesn't provide the players that say the Scorpions do for SRV, Monte Vista and DLS.

Later this month the CCC times usually reports an all Bay Area team I believe. At the banquet for SRV last night 3 of their players were announced as All American High School players selected by coaches in Nor Cal. These young men included Austin French, Carter Nichols, Joey Carrington. Don't know who else was selected nor the criteria for selection. However its national in its scope and sponsored by Nike or some well recognized group. Maybe some one out there knows the details. I think it is a bit of a big deal. Congrats to them.

And finally of course there is the elephant in the room SI loaded with good kids, but not part of the NCS along with Bellarmine in the south bay. Too bad SI and SRV couldn't have played again at the end of the season. Who would have known that the two best team in Nor Cal would meet up in the first game of the season in Feb and won by SI 13-11. A rematch would have been fun.

The original thread concerned the question of identifying top players in Northern California with 42Laxdad then offering up his selections for top lacrosse talent in the east bay only. A impressive list indeed. Regardless, Grampa Lax has noted that the 2015 All-American list has been announced (though I have not seen the official release) -- which will answer the question of who our Norcal coaches have selected as the top players in our region. As I understand it, this list incorporates SI, Bellarmine and some of the other south bay teams from the CCS. It does not include teams from the Sacramento area as they have their own selection process. I also believe that the number of All-American spots is contingent on the total number of teams in an area which is a fair way to do it. And that selected representatives from the different leagues (typically experienced and responsible coaches) make the decisions which is smart. Probably a darn good thing that we parents are not involved...

Congrats to the (3) players that Grampa Lax has identified. I've seen all three play and they are quite deserving. Coach Worstell had done a terrific job molding together another championship season and I'm especially glad to see Austin French on the list -- a terrific player, leader and inspiration. His Dad is smiling. Joey Carrington, only a sophomore, and already recruited to North Carolina is destined for great things on the lacrosse field. I believe only Joe Reid, now at Denver, was the only other Norcal player selected as All-American as a sophomore, leaving high school as a 3-time honoree. Pretty cool. Word has it that his time will come at national champion Denver to show off his substantial skills.

With regards to the DVAL, Grampa Lax references that these programs "suffer from a yet to be developed, strong youth program". Actually, the majority of teams in this division that are in the Mt Diablo School District (along with Las Lomas and Alhambra of the DFAL) get their players from the Walnut Creek Warriors youth program that has been in existence since 2003. Many fine players from this youth league have been developed over the years though I have seen the numbers diminish in the recent past. Frankly, many of the better players head off to De La Salle though its great to see schools like College Park recently benefit from more experienced players coming their way. Like any youth program, the most important thing is coaching and the ability to teach the all-critical fundamental skills while instilling the passion to embrace the game. The Scorpion program has consistently done that over the years -- plus they only deliver those kids primarily to (2) high schools. The Warriors feed (6) programs which might make a difference, not sure.

It would have been fun to see an SI - SLV late season match up, maybe it's time to get SI, Bellarmine and other Bay Area teams involved in the NCS playoffs. SI had such an impressive season beating Top 5 ranked Landon and many other fine teams. Players like Nick Stinn and Peter Alimam, who I've watched play since they were middle schoolers, are formidable talents and soon to be off to D1 schools. I assume we will see a number of these kids on the All-Amercan list -- as we should.

It's a good time to be a high school lacrosse player...

In regards to Piedmont not being ready to play teams outside their league, they played De La Salle, losing by one, Acalanes, losing by 2 and tied Amador Valley in a scrimmage. They beat Marin Academy and University twice and had a very competitive game in the NCS semi's with MC, unfortunately coming up against an amazing outing by the MC goalie who had 27 saves. Quinn Burnett (attack, senior) was selected as an All American.

WC warriors is a weak program. their U15A team went 0-fer this year.

College Park's improved play and record is not due to getting more experienced players but due to better coaching it has rec'd from Drew W. (ex-campo coach).

DLS gets most of its better players from scorpians.

SI and Bells are in the CCS Section so they would not play for the NCS championship.

Laxtruth, true that SI and Bellarmine are CCS members, the Sac San Joaquin section is playing in the NCS. Is there a process for getting the best teams together for a true championship (make the WCAL an affiliate member for lacrosse)? That would be one way to get what GrampaLax wanted (a later season rematch between SI and SRV).

I believe what people would like to see is a Norcal Championship where all the north sections (CCS, NCS) play each other, and then that champion plays the so cal champion for the CA State Championship like they do so many other sports in CIF. Sounds great but won't happen for many years (10+) since it takes two more sections total (from anywhere in CA I believe) to form before CIF sanctions a State Title. There are only two sections in So Cal so far -- So Cal and San Diego. Anyway, there is a thread about this on this forum that goes into detail about what it will take to get a State title game. IMO, if the SAC-Joaquin area would create a section and then one in the South, say Inland Empire, were to be created, then we would have enough. But growth has a long way to go in those areas before they create their own sections.

Likely one step at a time. If there was a NorCal championship, they could lay claim to a fictional State Title (much like DLS in football for a long time). Then the SoCal Schools will get it together. Also, my understanding is that there are not enough leagues playing in CCS, nor Sac-San Joaquin, to have a section championship, hence why the Sac Schools are playing in the NCS and the CCS schools only have league championships. Too bad for SI and Bellarmine, since they haven't had much competition in their league (save St. Francis this year) and are playing the EBAL teams, plus whomever might come to Northern California to play (Colorado, SoCal, San Diego), and SI making their annual pilgrimage to the east coast.
