Any Surpises Yet in 2015?

GhostCheck 22 suggested a new topic; The Texans have come and are gone.

Previously in an earlier blog the topic of the state of Marin County lacrosse was noted:

"About div 2. I think Marin Catholic 2-4 may still be the best in Marin as they have had a brutal opening schedule and might be able now to win the majority of the games they have left? Acalanes still probably the cream of the crop with a big game with SRV in a week ? Piedmont looks tough. "What about DLS defending NC champs? They lost a lot of kids to graduation but they like SI are capable of reloading. Their 2 loses were against two of the best teams in So Cal. Expect the game between SRV and DLS will be huge. Can someone from the Spartan nation give us some insight? Can MV bounce back from a bad loss 14-4 to SRV? What's with the apparent drop in strength of the Marin teams ? ( graduation and defections to SI) After all Novato and Redwood played for the North Coast Section championship won by Redwood only two years ago."

Royalbluelax questioned what happened to the Marin teams this year. I suggested in the above earlier post that MC might be the class of Marin county and will vie once again with Acalanes for div 2 bragging rights. They had a brutal opening 4 games and still have some tough games ahead. They graduated some real studs and are a young team on the rise. Their victory over DLS 6-5 over the weekend in overtime makes a huge statement. Did anyone attend that game? Marin Catholic now 5-4 has another big game Tuesday against Amador who is 7-1. However not sure of what that means as the Don's schedule is not even close to what MC has faced. Tuesday's game will surely provide a better perspective on both teams

The DLS fans are very quiet. The Spartans have a huge game with SI at home Wednesday night. Any chance they can pull another upset like last year? Or is this a bit of a down year for DLS comparatively. Any other surprises so far? Your thoughts Ghost Check22 , RoyalblueLax ?

I went to the DLS and MC game on Saturday. It was 2-2 going into the 4th quarter and DLS went up 4-2 before MC came back by winning FO and going straight to goal. The 33 zone MC was running was excellent at only allowing outside shots from DLS. MC had a man up going in to OT and a failed clear by DLS gave MC a second chance and the game winner was scored in a settled situation with a player scoring from his knees. Overall a very good game from last years 2 NCS Champs.

MC had a brutal schedule to start off and looked much improved from when they played Monte Vista. The rest of Marin is suffering from graduation. Wasn't the 2014 class for Redwood something special?

DLS has athletes up and down the field and they can be competitive with SI. The St Francis and SI score was surprising 8-4.

I saw the MV and SRV game. I knew SRV was good but they were dominate in transition and shooting was on point. You can see the 3d offense working and French is just that good. SRV defense is also very good and threats up and down field.

I am surprised how Davis is doing. Davis face off guy is phenomenal and he went something like 24-26 against MV. It will be an interesting game in the Sac area between Granite Bay and Oak Ridge to see who is the top team in that league.

The AV and Marin Catholic game looks interesting tomorrow.

Overall SRV will be beyond battle tested for a run at NCS this year. Piedmont/Acalanes/MC are the class of D2 and think it is to early to call it there.

In regards to the Sacramento teams, does anyone know if they will be in NCS playoffs and if so, which schools are D1 and which are D2?

Besides the games you guys spoke of above, the only other big match up I see this week is University at Piedmont (any predictions?), before next week, where there looks to be a number of quality games.

Yes, those teams are included in NCS. Below is a link to the divisions.

Amador Valley Dons defeated Marin Catholic last night with a convincing 7-2 score. AV Goalie Trey Cranney dominant with 17 saves. A statement win....

Shortstick.
Yes I think the Don's win over MC was a big win. However, they lost two days later to Oak Park, (6-3) an ok but not a great So Cal team with a PR of 89.4 which makes Amador still a question mark to be a threat to win the EBAL They have 4 more easy games against schools with PR's in the mid 80's and even 70's Very likely they will head into their first real test in the EBAL on 4/17 sporting a 13-2 record against DLS. If they can win that game then I think they can be taken seriously as an EBAL contender with later matchups on 4/21 against SRV and MV on 5/1.

DLS doesn't appear to be the same team that won the NC Div 1 last year and last Wednesday they were not able to repeat last year's upset of SI losing 13-5. Anyone see that game? Were the Spartans ever in it? However, remember DLS didn't peak last year till the end of the season and they always have a lot of good athletes.

Tomorrow night SI takes its spring break trip back east to play two very good teams in the DC area Landon 11-0 with a (PR of 99.9) and Gonzaga 8-2 (PR 99.8)As good as the Wildcats may be for SI even to win one of those games would be quite an accomplishment.

This coming weekend a very good team from Orange County St Margaret's Episcopal( 11-1 PR 95.1) comes to the Bay area to play Campolindo on 4/9, SRV on 4/10 and Bellamine 4/11. The next day SRV hosts Acalanes now the 3rd ranked team 8-1 in Nor Cal and are probably the odds on favorite to win the Div 2 NC championship with Piedmont and MC not far behind . The Dons beat SRV last year but don't think Acalanes is as good as their special team of a year ago and SRV is much improved. If the Wolves now 7-1 can win those two games they are probably the team to beat for the EBAL and Nor Coast Div 1 championship. SRV will host both games. No doubt things will be a lot clearer after next Saturday's games are completed.

HUGE win for SI at Landon. 10-8 with SI scoring four unanswered goals late in the 4th quarter, including two in the final minute.

Friend from the DC area who knows East Coast lax very well texted me yesterday:

Holy smokes St. Ignatius beat Landon here in DC. Unprecedented. They're playing the cream of the crop in these parts. Gonzaga lost to Landon last week in what some say was the best game in DC history. Don't know about that but 4,000 people attended the game.

What a win for SI. Would that be the highest ranked opponent a Norcal team has defeated? Hopefully they can beat Gonzaga as well.

Along with the games stated earlier, it looks like Montevista is down in the San Diego Area. Laxpower says they lost to Cathedral (who has challenged for the SD title the past few years) and have match ups with Bishop's and Pacific Ridge.

Menlo School plays another San Diego team (Poway) after beating a team from OC area (Tesoro).

This looks to be a big week for Norcal lacrosse in regards to showcasing our talents vs teams from different areas.
