Bishop O'Dowd 9, Cal High 5

Very good high school lacrosse up at the top of 98th Ave tonight. First quarter was like a heavyweight fight - each side took their turns with offense of possessions and control and bend-don't-break defense. BOD put one in with just a minute or two to go - 1-0 at the end of the 1st. The Dragons had apparently seen something and pushed it in the 2nd, lots of cuts & feeds and probably a 10:2 minute time of possession advantage in the 2nd and the score at the half was 5-1 O'Dowd.

The 4-goal advantage held up throughout the 2nd half, sometimes going to 5, but evening up around 4 until time expired. Cal tried for a little push in the 4th, but the Dragons goalie came up big enough times to make sure there wasn't going to be a momentum shift. Both teams played clean, professional style lacrosse: clearing well, keeping penalties to a minimum, using the redirects and the cross-field and the skip passes well. BOD scored a couple of times at the end of transition, but overall it was a game of 6v6, not one won on broken plays or blown clears. Basically the kind of game you want to bring your middle-school players to see, because it was a battle of very disciplined, well-coached teams.

BOD off to a 3-0 start... has already matched last season's win total. Congrats to Coach Joe Rabinowitz & staff, the turnaround is getting attention beyond the 510.
