All I can tell you is that the NCS web page brackets still list this as a Wednesday game. In fact, all of the boys' semi-finals, in Division 1 and Division 2, are listed as being played on Wednesday.

Here's the link to the Div. 1 bracket: http://cifncs.org/sports/lacrosse/files ... CKET11.pdf

My prediction: MV will win if they keep SRV in single-digits scoring-wise, I think SRV takes it by 2 or 3 if they get into double digits. Beating SRV in a shootout twice just doesn't seem like a likely proposition to me.

This is about as close to a pick 'em game as there is in the semi-finals. Same record. Split the season series. Laxpower power ratings .02 apart. Each team won at the other's field. Monte Vista's attack. All those D1 studs at SRV.

Monte Vista's been on a late season roll, taking nine in a row, including avenging losses to De La Salle, San Ramon Valley, and Foothill. The Mustangs haven't lost since - - - they last faced SRV at Monte Vista. Still, I have to go with the hot hand. Monte Vista in another one-goal thriller. You heard it here first.

These two teams are very easily matched, and there are no surprises here. MV knows how to beat SRV, but knowing how and doing it are two different things. If MV executes their game plan well and SRV follows its game plan, I think MV will win by one or two. If either team brings their B game, it will be a long, ugly night for them.

Wow, what a game.

First, I am sure that most anybody who saw the game would freely admit that it was pretty sloppy. More broken play goals and thrown away passes than I expected between these two teams. Both teams were pretty excited to play, so I guess some of that might have been nerves. I had the scoring as follows:

Q1 MV 1 SRV 3
Q2 MV 4 SRV 0
Q3 MV 2 SRV 1
Q4 MV 2 SRV 4
total MV 9 SRV 8

Monte Vista
Hock 6g 1a
Welker 1g 1a
Gradinger 1a
Hassfeld 1g 1a
Michel 1g 2a

San Ramon Valley
Weiss 3g
LaTendress 1a
Tagliaferi, P 1g
Barnes 1a
Miller, C. 1a
Tafliaferi, M. 3g
Worstel 1g

Two big factors in the game: MV's D played very well tonight, limiting good shots by SRV's big guns. MV goalie Gus Gradinger also played very well, ending up with 11 saves and an 80 yard assist to Casey Hock. The game turned in the second quarter when MV killed a 3 minute unreleasable stick penalty, scoring the aforementioned goal in the process. MV scored three more goals in the second to take a lead into the half that they carried the rest of the game. The second factor was Casey Hock. Casey did what Casey does tonight, hooking up for 6 goals and an assist to fellow attackman Jack Michel. He was shooting lights out and MV needed that to get the win.

MV was up by three at the end of 3 and carried that lead through the good part of the fourth quarter, when SRV put their team on Mike Tagliaferi's back to see if he could pull it out for them. He nearly did, bouncing off multiple defenders and scoring three gutsy goals in the fourth. MV also scored 2 in the fourth though so SRV was unable to catch them. Patrick Worstel dropped in a goal on a broken play with 0:01 second to go to bring the game within one, but the game was over by then.

SRV Goalie Cameron Bowlby also played extremely well, having 10 saves, several of those stuffs on the crease. He kept SRV in it til the end.
