Looking for the posting on the seedings.

Looks like 16 in D1 and 13 in D2. Acalanes, Marin Catholic, and Miramonte appear to have byes in round 1 of the Division 2 tournament.

I’m sorry, but this playoff format is ridiculous. Do teams with 3-15, 5-7, 6-14 records REALLY deserve to play for a championship? Is this just another way for NCS and the school districts to get money? I just hope that the inexperienced level of play of some of the players on these bottom tier teams don’t cripple some DI bound player.
If its worth doing, its worth abusing.

Why would a team with a D1 bound player even play them in these first round games?

It's gotta be a money making decision when you start charging $9 / adult admission fees - more games, more money. In a way I'm kind of glad not having to travel to De LaSalle to get beat up on again after having it happen twice already this year.

A team might play their starters in these early games to keep their energy at the right level for the games to come. Maybe not play them a whole game, but it could be just as dangerous to let them sit without competition for a week than to play them and risk injury. Every coach has to know their kids well enough to weigh that one for their team.
What if the hokey-pokey IS what its all about?

Yes, I was sort of being a smart ass. I know the coaches will play their guys to get them ready for the coming games. Some of these opening round games are so lopsided that the top seeded teams could practically send their JV though. It's sort of silly. The field should have been limited to 12 teams in Div 1 at most.

With the new D1/D2 designation this year, I'd even say 8 playoff teams in each division would have been appropriate. Every game should matter - its not the NBA. Losing records in the postseason cheapens it for everyone. And if a couple of winning teams have to justify their presence, it only means coaches will take on tougher schedules in the future.
