One more significant indicator that NorCal girls lacrosse has "arrived":

It is very gratifying to find red shirt junior RACHEL OZER, who starred for four years at Campolindo High School, emerged as the NUMBER ONE SCORER for the nationally ranked Stanford women this year. Stanford won the MPSF tournament behind Rachel's performances against California, both in the tourney final and in the last game of the season, and Rachel finished on the All-Conference first team.

Rachel led the team in 2013 in goals scored (48), assists (24), and points scored (72), far ahead of all the east coast athletes on the team. She starts 2014 on the Tewaarton watch list. Check out her photo at gostanford.com; she's number 3.

We also have to be proud that one of Stanford's other three All-Conference first teamers this year came from St. Ignatius: sophomore HANNAH FARR had 33 goals and 13 assists for a total of 46 points and was named the MVP of the MPSF Tournament. One week later Hannah scored the winning goal against Notre Dame as the Cardinal won their first NCAA tournament game before losing in the second round to defending national champion Northwestern.

Also on the Stanford squad: PAIGE SOUTHMAYD from Monte Vista and RACHEL HINDS from St. Ignatius, who both contributed as freshman and sophomore, respectively.

Stanford's squad this year also included six players from Texas and two from Colorado, so the team no longer has the total East Coast flavor that it had until a few years ago. And next spring they will have Ashlynn Goerz and Laura Klein from Monte Vista and Foothill, respectively, as the newest NorCal team members. Stanford's latest recruiting class was ranked ninth in the nation by Laxpower.com, as we recall.
