Stanford Back in Top 10

Stanford Back in Top 10

We just watched Stanford knock off No. 5 Syracuse, one of last year's Final Four teams, 11-10, down on The Farm. After defeating preseason No. 10 Notre Dame one week ago, Stanford should have made the Top 10. Instead they stayed at No. 13, unchanged from their preseason ranking. This week the polls could no longer ignore the west coast and after the game Stanford jumped to No. 7, right behind No. 6 Notre Dame (go figure).

We hoped to get a chance to see Stanford freshman RACHEL OZER get into the game. It proved to be no problem; she's already a starter, scored an early goal to put the Cardinal ahead 4-1, and looked just as strong as she did at Campolindo for the last four years.

Stanford held a 7-4 lead at the half, went up 10-6 about fifteen minutes into the second half and then held on against a late surge by The 'Cuse, which made five of its ten goals on free position shots. Both goalies were phenomenal with Annie Read of the Cardinal making a key save in the closing minute followed by a key clear to allow a freeze by Stanford over the last 58 seconds.
